Bert A. Haagenstad blends a lifetime of curiosity and creativity into his writing. Growing up on South Dakota farms taught him dedication, while his love for animals led to years of dog training and hands-on experience with top German Shepherds. Today, he writes across genres, from thrilling mysteries to heartfelt children’s stories, bringing both imagination and real-life experiences to every page.

Early Writing Years

Bert has been writing since he was twelve, growing up on South Dakota farms. Inspired by vivid dreams, he began composing stories in secret, taking notes and even sketching images to capture recurring nightmares. He experimented with different voices, taping stories to bring his characters to life.

Life with Animals

At twenty-four, Bert worked for a veterinarian, learning the unique traits of cats and dogs. His passion for animals continued with his second White German Shepherd Dog, who became one of America’s top-ranked German Shepherds. This experience led to a fourteen-year hobby of training all breeds of dogs.

Writing Across Genres

Bert writes in multiple genres, from fantasy to murder mysteries. He has also authored a book on dog training and, in 2023, fulfilled a long-time dream by publishing a children’s religious picture book, The First Easter Egg.

The Heart of Storytelling

Through all his experiences, Bert’s love of storytelling remains the driving force. Whether inspired by dreams, life experiences, or imagination, he continues to create stories that captivate and engage readers of all ages.
